    Quilting Adventures with Erica

    Erica Millbrooks

    Quilt Enthusiast

With a love for sewing and a degree in Fashion Design, 15 years ago in 2003, Erica Millbrooks, a transplant from Seattle began volunteering at Baxter Community Center's Sewing Program. Two years later, she took over as the Instructor and has been teaching sewing and quilting to adults and children alike. After the class started creating some beautiful quilts, Millbrooks wanted an outlet to showcase the work the ladies were producing and to share the love of quilting she has created and attended many quilting retreats in the past years.

Millbrooks desire is to see the community come together to support the art and talent of quilters everywhere. Her first Quilt show was 2013 then 2014 and biennially thereafter in 2016 and 2018. The theme of last years show was “A Stitch in Time, Every Quilt has a Story” Inspired by stories the ladies would tell in the sewing circle she decided that this years theme would center around those stories encouraged the class to make “Story quilts”. She also knew of the historical importance of quilting and how they were used to guide African American Freedom Seekers on the Underground Railroad North and to Canada.resulted in applying for and receiving two grants. One through the Council for Arts and Cultural affairs and the Neighborhood Match grant which has help produce this years show a rich, creative tapestry of color, rich in heritage and story.

We look forward to meeting and quilting with you whether in person or virtually!
